Empowering Families, Local Communities, and Cultural Heritage Through Socially Responsible Business Practices.

In Indonesia, the growing need for dual-income households has led to reduced parental involvement in children’s daily lives. Many families experience a lack of father participation in parenting, and with a rise in working mothers, grandparents often have to step in to support children who are then left occupied with digital devices for extended periods of time. The limited parental interaction can weaken emotional bonds and negatively impact children’s social and emotional development.

Al-Anbiyaa', a producer of men's sarongs featuring batik, the traditional Indonesian art design commonly worn by Indonesia’s Muslim community, recognises this challenge among their employees. Many parents have no choice but to leave their children in the care of others while working to support their families. To address this, Al-Anbiyaa' aims to strengthen family support for their employees by providing a self-managed childcare centre that creates a supportive environment for parents and promotes children’s healthy development.

In addition, the company strives to empower local communities in Pekalongan, Central Java, by creating job opportunities and offering skill development programmes that support people in building sustainable livelihoods. To date, Al-Anbiyaa' has employed over 500 people and sold more than 1.5 million sarongs across Indonesia and internationally, bringing Indonesian cultural products to diverse global markets.

Looking ahead, Al-Anbiyaa’s mission is to ensure sustainable livelihoods for their employees while balancing tradition with innovation. By embracing fresh ideas and new approaches, the company aims to keep batik relevant for future generations.
