Degraded soils can make farming less resilient and more expensive. Many producers rely on chemical inputs that can harm ecosystems and people’s health and can lock farmers into rising input costs. Regenerative practices can help, but they aren’t always affordable, easy to access, or suited to local conditions, which can make gradual, practical change hard.
GEXUS develops and supplies bio-inputs made with live microalgae that farmers can use directly on their crops. These bio-inputs help regenerate soil, support the soil–plant system, and improve biological activity over time. As soil health improves, producers can gradually reduce their use of harmful agrochemicals, rather than stopping them all at once.
Alongside the products, GEXUS provides technical support so farmers can apply the bio-inputs effectively, learn from each growing cycle, and adapt their use to local conditions.
GEXUS currently supports 162 agricultural producers, mainly in rural and Indigenous communities in and around Monterrey, Mexico. By helping soils recover and reducing reliance on harmful chemicals, the solution supports healthier ecosystems and more resilient farming over time. Gexus tracks progress through changes in soil health and the gradual reduction in the use of toxic agrochemicals.
GEXUS wants to make regenerative farming a practical choice for many more producers across Mexico. By expanding into new regions and scaling field validation, they’ll help more farmers access this technology and support a wider shift towards healthier soils and a more sustainable food system.
Programme support
Through the Mexico Accelerator Programme, we’ll support GEXUS with mentoring and hands-on guidance as they grow their reach, strengthen new partnerships, and help bring their solution to more farmers. We’re looking forward to working with them as they scale their impact across Mexico.
