Supports people in Mexico recycle more by building everyday habits through community-led environmental education.

In Mexico, many post-consumer products, from clothes to phones to furniture still aren’t recovered or recycled. When valuable materials aren’t separated effectively, they’re harder to reuse and often end up as waste instead of staying in the circular economy.

Recycling is more than just putting things in bins. People need to know what to separate, how to prepare it, and why it is important. Without clear instructions and regular habits, sorting can be inconsistent and the materials collected may be low quality. This lowers their value and makes it harder to use them again in production.

Grupo Promesa offers environmental education and recycling programs in schools, businesses, and neighborhoods in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. They focus on getting the community involved. When people learn to sort waste correctly, the materials collected are cleaner and better quality. This makes them more valuable and easier to reuse in production. They handle many types of materials, such as plastics, metals, paper, cardboard, glass, multi-layer packaging, and e-waste like electronics and batteries.

Grupo Promesa’s work begins with people. By partnering with schools, businesses, and neighborhoods, they help make waste sorting a regular habit instead of a one-time effort. As more people learn to sort waste correctly, the materials collected are cleaner and better quality. This makes them easier to reuse and helps return valuable resources to production, building a stronger circular economy.

Programme support

During its time in the Mexico Accelerator Programme, we’ll support Grupo Promesa to grow sustainably by strengthening its commercial reach and partnerships, and by helping it make the most of increased collection capacity. We’re looking forward to working with the team as they replicate their model in new cities and help more communities build lasting recycling habits.
