Heartworks Solution creates employment opportunities for persons with disabilities through skills development, flexible work arrangements, and virtual assistant roles.
Many talented people face barriers to traditional employment. For persons with disabilities, people living with chronic health conditions, single mothers and family caregivers, fixed working hours, daily commuting and inflexible workplaces can make it difficult to find and keep meaningful work.

As a result, valuable skills and experience often go unused, while individuals miss opportunities to build stable incomes and careers.
Heartworks Solution was founded in Malaysia in 2021 by Fiona Tan, after she lost her job during the pandemic while navigating her own physical limitations. Her experience of remote work showed her that many capable people face similar challenges, and that flexible digital jobs could open new opportunities.
Today, Heartworks provides virtual assistant services to businesses in Malaysia, Singapore and the UK, while creating inclusive employment opportunities for people who may struggle to access conventional work. The organisation recruits and trains virtual assistants in areas such as administration, customer service, payroll support, bookkeeping coordination and digital tools before matching them with clients. Flexible, remote working arrangements allow team members to balance employment with health needs, caregiving responsibilities and other life circumstances.
Since its founding, Heartworks has engaged 30 virtual assistants and built a client base of around 50 ongoing subscribers. Many of the virtual assistants come from underserved groups, including persons with disabilities, single mothers and caregivers. The organisation has also demonstrated that talent can thrive across borders, with team members supporting businesses internationally from their homes in Malaysia.
One story that reflects Heartworks’ approach is a virtual assistant living with kidney failure who requires dialysis three times a week. After struggling to find stable employment, she secured her first long-term role through Heartworks, supported by flexible working arrangements and an understanding client.
Looking ahead, Heartworks aims to deepen its impact by expanding opportunities for more underserved communities, strengthening its internal leadership team and developing a structured training academy to prepare future virtual assistants for digital employment. The organisation is focused on growing sustainably while maintaining the empathy, flexibility and human-centred values at the heart of its work.

Through programme support, Heartworks will strengthen its leadership and succession planning, build systems that enable sustainable growth and further develop its talent pathway. The organisation will use the programme to refine its long-term strategy, strengthen organisational capacity and explore new ways to create inclusive employment opportunities. It will also develop approaches for measuring and demonstrating social impact while continuing to support underserved communities to participate in the growing digital economy.
