At Ibupreneur, 86% of participants join with no savings and many rely on irregular daily wages.
Founded by Aida Zunaidi and Wong Wei Qi, Ibupreneur was created to change this reality. Its name combines the Malay word “ibu” (mother) with entrepreneurship, reflecting its mission to enable mothers to achieve greater financial independence through business.
Ibupreneur takes a practical approach that combines skills development with real market opportunities. Through the Ibupreneur Academy, mothers receive training in digital literacy, entrepreneurship, financial management and business development. Graduates can then connect to commercial opportunities through MakersHub, where they produce and sell premium artisanal food products, corporate gifts, seasonal hampers and catering services. This enables women to turn skills into income while building confidence and long-term business capabilities.
The organisation’s impact extends beyond individual participants. To date, Ibupreneur has engaged more than 600 mothers and positively influenced thousands of family members. Around 86% of graduates increase their stable income, and many participants have moved from earning around RM1,600 per month to more than RM4,000 after completing the programme. One of the earliest pilots worked with four vulnerable single mothers. Every RM1 invested generated RM7 in income, and all four went on to run independent businesses.
What stands out about Ibupreneur is its willingness to evolve alongside the needs of mothers. From supporting home-based food businesses to building a structured academy and commercial ecosystem, the organisation continues to strengthen pathways to sustainable livelihoods. In the future, Ibupreneur plans to expand its Academy to reach more women across Malaysia, strengthen its digital systems and create more opportunities for mothers to grow resilient businesses and become leaders within their communities.
Programme support
Through programme support, Ibupreneur will strengthen its leadership capacity, operational systems and data management practices. The organisation will develop more efficient ways to measure and communicate impact, enhance digital tools and processes, and build the foundations needed to scale its Academy and MakersHub models. This support will enable Ibupreneur to reach more mothers, strengthen market opportunities and create sustainable pathways to economic participation across Malaysia.
