Founded in 2022, Kobumi is dedicated to making Indigenous communities the main beneficiaries of its work, not just participants. In partnership with the EcoNusa Foundation and local Indigenous cooperatives, Kobumi works to ensure that products such as nutmeg, cloves, copra, cocoa, cinnamon, Papua coffee, and patchouli oil reach markets efficiently, ethically, and in line with demand.
The enterprise supports local cooperatives by providing access to capital and financial literacy programmes, training in sustainable land management, and supplying production equipment and storage facilities. They also work with Indonesian National Standards (SNI) to ensure compliance in the production process, storage, and delivery. Kobumi provides fair pricing and reinvests its profits into community development and conservation projects, ensuring that growth benefits people and the environment.
Looking ahead, Kobumi’s mission focuses on three key areas. First, improving the quality of commodities to promote equitable and sustainable economic growth. Second, strengthening land rights to ensure sustainable resource management, preserve culture, and provide legal certainty. Third, enhancing staff capacity and professionalism in managing social enterprises.
Programme support
Through the I-SEA Programme with Instellar, we’ll support Kobumi in advancing its three key missions by providing mentorship, networking opportunities, business support, and access to resources.
We look forward to supporting Kobumi’s mission in fostering environmental stewardship and economic sovereignty for Indigenous communities in Eastern Indonesia.
