New season cushions and throw with social business Rangsutra

These unique, handmade products from our long-term partner, Rangsutra, create jobs in rural India and bring Spring into the home.

A long-term partnership impacting livelihoods of Indian artisans

Since 2007, Rangsutra has helped support and secure livelihoods and nurtured traditional Indian craftsmanship like embroidery, textile and grass weaving. IKEA joined forces with Rangsutra in 2012, creating new products every year and showcasing the work of skilled artisans in the process. Long-term collaborations develop stable incomes and bring greater security to workers from once vulnerable groups, over time

This Spring season, Rangsutra have crafted four new products with IKEA designer Paulin Machado. The DVÄRGNARV, TÅGHAKMAL and ROSENDUNÖRT cushion covers and the throw, LINDSVÄRMARE, add freshness and personality to a room, but they also tell the story of IKEA’s long-term partnership with Rangsutra, a community-owned social business of over 2000 artisans in India.

Partnering with Rangsutra and producing products for IKEA at Rangsutra has a direct impact on female artisans in local villages. The partnership generates work for over 1000 artisans, of whom 85% are women and a majority are also shareholders in Rangsutra.

When women in marginalised communities are empowered, skilled and employed, they ignite transformation within themselves, their families and communities, resulting in change
