Turns waste data into insights, improving recycling systems while creating safer, better‑paid jobs for waste workers.

Waste systems worldwide are struggling to keep up with fast-growing cities and rising consumption. Even in places that have recycling programmes, cities and brands often rely on estimates, surveys, and outdated reports to understand what people use and what they throw away.

As a result, many choices about packaging, sustainability, and waste management are based on limited and low-quality data. This causes inefficiencies, more contamination, and missed opportunities for recycling. Meanwhile, millions of waste workers work informally. They often face unsafe conditions, unstable incomes, and little recognition for their important role in the circular economy.

Bintix was created to close these gaps by seeing waste not as the end of a process, but as a valuable source of information.

The enterprise has developed a unique technology platform that uses QR codes and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to collect and analyse household dry waste. By tagging and tracking packaging from homes, Bintix shows what people actually use and discard, giving brands, cities, and recyclers accurate, real-time information.

Impact is at the core of the business. The platform helps households sort waste better, improves the quality and value of recycled materials, and keeps waste out of landfills. In 2025–26 alone 1,750 tonnes of waste were diverted from landfills, around 6,000+ tonnes of CO₂ emissions were avoided and nearly 49,000 households across seven cities in India practiced consistent waste segregation.

Bintix also supports waste workers by offering safer working conditions, steady incomes, and chances to learn new skills. More than 200 waste workers have transitioned into dignified, formalised employment, of which over 60% are women. And, on average, workers’ incomes rose by 31%, thanks to contracts, benefits, and safer workplaces.

By turning discarded packaging into useful information, Bintix is showing that better data leads to better systems for both people and the planet. As the platform scales across more geographies, its ambition is to become the main global source of data on post-consumer waste. This will help create smarter packaging, better recycling, and more inclusive value chains.

Fund support

IKEA Social Entrepreneurship has invested in Bintix through the Take-a-Stake Fund, recognising its unique role in climate action, data innovation, and supporting inclusive livelihoods.

This partnership will support Bintix’s scale by expanding its technology, reaching new cities, and increasing its positive impact on waste workers and urban environments. Together, we’re supporting a future where waste systems are smarter, fairer, and built for circularity from the start.
