Cerrando el Ciclo creates self-employment opportunities for women who use glass waste to create sustainable, attractive and functional products.

In Mexico, more than 3 million tons of glass are generated annually, but only 12% is recycled while the rest is buried in landfills or scattered in forests or oceans. Similarly, multiple industries that use glass to package their products, like breweries, beverage, and food industries, do not necessarily have the infrastructure to collect and recycle glass.

Cerrando el Ciclo is a social enterprise that encourages people and corporations to use glass as a resource for income and transform it into new products. They started as a civil organisation that supported women living in vulnerable situations by training them to transform glass into products that they could sell, improving their income. The organisation has evolved to work with companies from the beverage industry to integrate glass recycling into their value chain.

Additionally, Cerrando el Ciclo is available in four locations where consumers can see and buy products that have been created using glass bottles. They also continue running workshops in Mexico City where people can learn how to recycle glass.

In 2019, Cerrando el Ciclo became a social enterprise that promotes innovation, transformation, and revaluation of glass bottles. Through their work, they have demonstrated that a glass bottle can be transformed into a business model with social and environmental impact. Now, they want to take the next step to increase their impact by strengthening their alliances with more companies from the beverage industry and continue promoting sustainability.

Programme support

Cerrando el Ciclo has grown and they are more mature in terms of their organisation. Through the Mexico Accelerator Programme we’ll support them implementing a predictable sales system, improve and scale their business model, and their ability to offer products and services to larger corporations. We look forward to collaborating with them to create an innovative solution that promotes the circular economy and environmental awareness.
