Instituto Bios Terra (IBT) support 500 families from indigenous communities in Guerrero, Chiapas, Oaxaca and Veracruz (South of Mexico) with technical support and consulting for coffee production that improve the quality and quantity of the coffee harvest. At the same time, the IBT connects these producers with the right markets obtaining a better price for the coffee production (from 10% to 35% higher prices).

Additionally, Instituto Bios Terra searches to improve the relationship between people and the nature around them by sharing conservation practices for water, soil and biodiversity. The result is better coffee and better income for producers.

Instituto Bios Terra also conducts research and employs local technicians that visit coffee crops, conduct workshops and trainings. This permanent presence help IBT build a strong network and trustful relationship with producers.

During harvesting season, a IBT quality control team visit multiple crops in the region and analyse samples of the coffee production. They provide feedback for each producer and classify the production in terms of quality. Most of the coffee production is bought by Ensambles cafés mexicanos, a company that is committed to offer the right price for the coffee and sells it directly to consumers.

Programme support

We’ll support Instituto Bios Terra through mentorship about finance and marketing strategies. At the same time, we’ll work together to strengthen their efforts to raise funds for education and research in environmental and coffee-related issues. We’re excited to collaborate with them through our Mexico Accelerator Programme and support them to find new strategic allies and scale their business for greater social impact in the South of Mexico.
