Mitz supports women from vulnerable communities though work skills and financial education to reach economic independence and improve the lives of their families.

Millions of women in Mexico face barriers to gain economic independence. It’s estimated that 63% of these women are living in poverty and 13% in extreme poverty. Despite representing half of the population, only 13% are economically active, largely due to limited access to formal employment, education, and financial resources. Economic dependence often increases their vulnerability to domestic and gender-based violence, leaving them with few alternatives for autonomy.

Mitz supports economically disadvantaged women to become emotionally strong, productive and independent. The organisation offers different programmes related to both life and professional skills like selfcare, interpersonal relationships, healthcare, financial education and entrepreneurship. In this way, Mitz provides alternative pathways for financial independence, enabling women to gain skills, income, and confidence.

Mitz has an important programme by which they train women to produce accessories like purses and wallets using waste materials. This programme has helped Mitz fund their activities through alliances with major companies of the beverage and food industries that use plastic packaging and labels. By transforming their industrial waste into attractive products, Mitz not only creates sustainable employment opportunities for women but also helps companies reduce their environmental impact.

The products that Mitz produces using industrial waste is distributed in Mexico and the US or purchased again by the same companies that use them as corporate merchandise.

We’re enthusiastic to support them reaching financial sustainability so they can empower more women in Mexico.
