Plana transforms waste into durable PlanaWood, saving trees and empowering communities.

Plana addresses the critical issues of plastic waste and deforestation. The company focuses on transforming plastic and husk waste into PlanaWood, a durable material comprised of 60% rice husk and 30% plastic waste. This eco-friendly alternative serves as a building material, combating climate change and contributing to a more sustainable future.

In pursuing its mission, Plana engages with Tangerang's local farmers and waste collectors. The company supports local communities by purchasing husk waste from farmers and plastic waste from informal waste pickers, ensuring a steady supply of raw materials for its transformative process.

Joshua Christopher Chandra co-founded Plana with a vision to innovate in plastic recycling after witnessing firsthand the environmental impact of plastic waste in his previous role at a plastic injection and extrusion company.

Over the past two years, Plana's impact has been substantial. Producing 34,320 units of Planawood Decking, the organisation has recycled 82.37 tons of plastic waste, saving the equivalent of over 60,000 trees. This process has also utilised 164.74 tons of husk, reducing the carbon footprint by over 12,000 tons. Plana's efforts extend beyond environmental benefits, increasing the income of local farmers, waste pickers and collectors.

Programme support

Through its participation in I-SEA, Plana aims to solidify its position as a leading provider of sustainable building materials and actively raise awareness about PlanaWood's environmental benefits. We'll support the company with its plans to scale up operations and achieve wider market access. We're excited to work alongside Plana in transforming waste and contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive world.
