Racismo challenges deep-rooted racial biases in Mexico, working to create a more just and equal society

Racism in Mexico has long been hidden under the other narratives, making it challenging to address and eradicate. Many people in Mexico and across Latin America face discrimination based on their race, whether they are Black, Indigenous, or people of colour. This widespread issue negatively impacts their lives, limiting opportunities and perpetuating inequality.

Racismo, founded by José Antonio Aguilar Contreras, is dedicated to raising awareness of and addressing racism in Mexico and beyond. The organisation uses education, research, and communication strategies to challenge racism and classism at all levels of society. Racismo works with individuals, companies, and policymakers to help them recognise racism and find effective ways to eliminate it. The ultimate goal is to embed a commitment to racial equity in public and private policies, narratives, lawmaking, and access to justice.

Since starting in 2018, Racismo has made a significant impact. The organisation has reached over 2 million people through its campaigns and content, raising awareness and sparking conversations about racism. RacismoMX has also partnered with more than 30 companies, impacting over 5,000 employees with its focus on racial equity and inclusion. Moreover, the organisation has built a strong movement in Mexico, collaborating with various groups, including Indigenous, Afro-descendant, migrant, and brown communities.

Programme support

By participating in the Dela programme, José and his team hope to develop new strategies to scale up their efforts. We’ll support Racismo to broaden its impact by connecting it with other social entrepreneurs and experts who can help strengthen its leadership and expand its reach.
We look forward to being part of Racismo’s journey as it continues to dismantle racism and build a future where everyone, regardless of race, can thrive.
