Sal de Aquí revitalises ancestral salt harvesting practices, ensuring fair wages for producers, and offering a healthier alternative to processed salt.

Artisanal salt producers in Mexico face economic instability, often receiving low wages and little recognition for their craft. Meanwhile, consumers are increasingly exposed to heavily processed salts, which contributes to higher rates of hypertension and other chronic diseases.

Sal de Aquí is a social enterprise that works to revitalise ancestral salt-harvesting practices, ensure fair compensation for rural producers, and offer a healthier alternative to industrialised salts.

Recently, the enterprises has experimented with new flavors and expanded their catalogue of products, not only to pair the salt with drinks but also for cooking. Additionally, they have created alliances with local artists to design special editions that include trays, shot glasses, plates and containers for the flavored salts.

One of their main products is Flor de Sal, a hand-harvested, chemical-free alternative to commercial salts, rich in over 80 minerals and lower in sodium. Multiple Sal de Aquí products are also available in large supermarket chains across Mexico and via e-commerce. Additionally, the company raises awareness and educates consumers on the benefits of natural salt and traditional harvesting practices.
