Empowers rural farming families to improve their income and strengthen their communities through direct sales and farming support.

For many small-scale farmers in Colombia, making ends meet is a daily challenge. Earning just above the poverty line, they often lack access to essentials like clean water, electricity, internet, and safe housing. On top of this, limited infrastructure and financial support leave them especially vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

In 2020, SiembraCo set out to strengthen local agriculture in Colombia. With food systems under strain and shortages affecting communities, the founders created an online platform that connects rural farmers directly with urban customers. The goal was to build a food value chain that is stable, transparent, and sustainable for everyone involved.

Since then, the social enterprise has partnered with over 2,600 small-scale farmers across 12 regions in Colombia and Guatemala, from Piedecuesta to Sogamoso and Garzón. Together, they are finding new ways to boost productivity and improve livelihoods.

The SiembraCo platform opens new possibilities for local farmers. They can sell their crops in advance or offer them directly after harvesting to clients in retail, restaurants, catering, and hospitality. Urban customers choose the crops and quantities they need, while farmers benefit from stable incomes and fair prices by selling directly, without intermediaries.

Beyond connecting farmers and customers, the enterprise offers hands-on technical support to help producers improve their farming practices and adopt Good Agricultural Practices that lower carbon emissions. With tools like satellite crop monitoring, farmers gain real-time insights on water conservation and how to prepare for changing weather conditions.

SiembraCo’s mission also means partnering with companies that want to reduce their environmental footprint by sourcing directly from small-scale producers. By cutting out intermediaries, leading brands in Colombia are able to streamline their supply chains and lower transport costs, all while helping local farming families earn a living wage.
