Improving and promoting the economic, social and political empowerment of rural women and youth in Nigeria, specifically in the agricultural sector

WOFAN’s aim is to improve and promote the economic, social and political empowerment of rural women and youth to transform agriculture into business and develop positive linkages across all the agricultural value chains including access to finance, technical know-how and nutrition upkeep.

In North Nigeria, male domination is entrenched in the structure of social orga nization and women are marginalized. Women suffer from many socio-economic issues that include poverty, malnutrition, unemployment and dependency.

Using a holistic approach, Salamatu is refocusing families to work as a unit changing the dynamics between men and women. She is positioning smallholder families to jointly engage in primary cultivation of agricultural products, diversify their production lines, improve nutrition as well as increase their income.
