Social enterprises driving global change on World Food Day

Every year on 16 October, World Food Day highlights important topics such as food waste, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and the challenges faced by fishing communities — all in an effort to combat climate change. This year's theme is "Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future”. It's the perfect opportunity for us to shine a spotlight on the incredible efforts of social entrepreneurs, who are making everyday life better for so many people and how they're creating a more sustainable and inclusive world.

Opportunity to support Indonesian social enterprises for IKEA Social Entrepreneurship

IKEA Social Entrepreneurship, together with IKEA Indonesia and Instellar, launched I-SEA (Instellar - IKEA Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator) in 2021. It is a one-year acceleration program that focuses on supporting social enterprises to scale their businesses and social impact to the next level.

With tailored support, including training, mentorship, and funding, the programme seeks to enhance the capacity of social enterprises, fostering collaboration and innovation within the ecosystem.

IKEA co-workers' contribution is a key aspect of the programme and an opportunity to work closely with and learn from innovative social entrepreneurs.

Become a thought partner
We´re launching our third cohort in September 2025 and invite senior IKEA business leaders to become Thought Partners for 10 social enterprises participating in the programme. In this role, you’ll work together with another IKEA co-worker as partners to support a social enterprise.

“This (Thought Partner role) came about quite naturally. We split the roles and organised our time, and for the most part, things went positively. I spontaneously felt pretty good because, somehow, we found our place—where we wanted to be, how we wanted to engage with the social entrepreneurs—and we learned,” said Martin Otahel, one of the Thought Partners of I-SEA Cohort II.

The social enterprises in I-SEA are active in a range of sectors and regions across Indonesia. We’re excited that the new cohort will focus on inclusive nature-based solutions, inclusive textiles and crafts, and inclusive circularity.
