What is a social enterprise?

A social enterprise uses business as a way to address social and environmental issues, such as reducing poverty and waste or empowering women and youth. They strive to make a positive impact rather than focus only on making a profit, and typically create and produce goods and services in an entrepreneurial and innovative fashion. They are pioneers and pathfinders that work at all levels – from creating change in local communities to influencing the way social and environmental issues are addressed globally.
