Social enterprises driving global change on World Food Day

Every year on 16 October, World Food Day highlights important topics such as food waste, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and the challenges faced by fishing communities — all in an effort to combat climate change. This year's theme is "Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future”. It's the perfect opportunity for us to shine a spotlight on the incredible efforts of social entrepreneurs, who are making everyday life better for so many people and how they're creating a more sustainable and inclusive world.

In 2020, IKEA Social Entrepreneurship and New Ventures partnered to improve the livelihoods of Mexico's most vulnerable and marginalised communities by supporting social enterprises that drive positive social and environmental change.  

After successfully supporting 50 social enterprises over the past five years, we're excited to launch the Mexico Accelerator Programme 2025, which will support another 10 social entrepreneurs who address some of Mexico's most pressing challenges, ranging from poverty and unemployment to biodiversity loss and waste management.  

While participating in the one-year accelerator programme, the enterprises receive personalised support and access to funding to scale their business and impact. The support includes strategic guidance, training, and tailored mentoring from IKEA co-workers and industry experts, preparing them for corporate partnerships and sustainable growth.
